Service Management Group (SMG) is a global, technology-enabled experience measurement firm that helps multi-unit B2C and B2B brands listen better, act faster and outperform the competition. Using feedback and behavioral data, SMG uncovers customer and employee insights that help brands make improvements to increase loyalty and drive financial performance.


SMG is looking for a marketing director, branded programs to join our growing B2B marketing organization. This new position will report to the CMO and lead SMG marketing initiatives in the areas of public relations, earned media, content placement, SMG events, brand message strategy, and creative content development. The position will be based in SMG’s Kansas City headquarters and manage programs for North America and EMEA.


Success means leading the establishment and measurement of specific metrics for advancing SMG’s reputation in the market, while also introducing SMG to buyers in new categories. All initiatives will be evaluated relative to growth and retention goals.


  • Lead collaboration with CMO and key marketing team members to develop SMG’s creative message strategy (brand position, brand voice, brand language, etc.)
  • Lead the collaboration with CMO and key marketing team members to develop/execute a plan for branded program initiatives to support SMG business strategy and sales goals
  • Align with marketing’s demand generation team to understand sales goals, and how the branded content team’s deliverables will support those goals
  • Attach tangible success metrics to all branded program initiatives, gaining alignment on what success looks like – and then regularly reporting, evaluating and optimizing plan performance (i.e., how do PR and SMG events support our demand generation goals)
  • Establish and execute a comprehensive PR plan that boosts SMG brand awareness and reputation within current categories, and introduces SMG to buyers in new categories (top of funnel marketing initiatives that drive impressions and inbound demand)
  • Lead earned media and content placement (speaking engagements, articles, sponsored content, etc.) designed to drive site traffic and boost SEO and other website performance metrics for
  • Collaborate with the head of product marketing to build and support an analyst relations plan designed to increase SMG awareness and reputation (Forrester, Gartner, other)
  • Lead planning and execution of SMG-branded events (client and prospects) in North America and EMEA, designed to drive expansion sales and new logo revenue
  • Drive SMG social media strategy, plan development and execution, supporting SMG brand metrics and demand generation goals (collaborating with the demand generation team)
  • Develop strategy, plan and content for SMG award entries
  • Lead the SMG client award program (Top Partnership Insights)
  • Lead collaboration with CMO, associate director of communication and agency teams to drive the development and execution of SMG branded identity system, brand materials, brand guidelines and branded content (website, email, digital assets, collateral, etc.)
  • Oversee the development and production of SMG-branded gifts, premiums, wearables, etc.
  • Oversee the development of projects request by the Client Insights team to support SMG-program promotion with current clients (client conference materials, etc.)
  • Build and manage relationships with outside firms engaged to support branded programs for public relations, content placement, events, creative services/production, etc.
  • Manage outside contracts/licenses for branded programs (Cision, PR Newswire, etc.)
  • Budget control and management for branded program initiatives
  • Additional strategic initiatives as deemed important



The ideal candidate will have a proven track record for managing branded programs, public relations, content placement, social media and events for a B2B technology-related company – including managing plans/campaigns from concept to ROI analysis.


Required Experience + Traits


  • 10+ years strategic marketing experience, with proven ability to deliver consistently strong measurable results (B2B, technology/software experience a plus)
  • Bachelor degree in marketing or related field
  • Ability to lead and/or contribute to high-level business and brand building discussions, and then lead the development and execution of plans designed to deliver on established goals
  • Ability to lead and inspire internal and agency creative teams on brand building initiatives and branded content development and production
  • Experience writing creative briefs, launching creative projects and guiding creative teams to deliver work that’s on strategy, on brand, on time and on budget
  • Strong experience and ability to connect brand building initiatives with demand generation goals in the forms of public relations, content, social, events, analyst relations, etc.
  • Experience managing and mentoring successful teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills—ability to write and deliver high-impact presentations, and also demonstrable experience communicating campaigns and results to sales and executive teams
  • Collaborative thinker and team member who builds bridges within the department, across departments, with executive teams, agency partners and with vendors
  • Detail-oriented with strong attention to follow-through and comfortable with deadlines
  • Creative, high energy, innovative, proactive, and resourceful
